Conquer Pet Odors with These 10 Tips

Conquer Pet Odors with These 10 Tips

Our furry friends bring three things to us; endless joy, cuddles, and stank!

Everything about sharing our lives with cute little pets is wonderful, except just one thing: Pet Litter Box. If there has to be one thing about pet parenthood, it has to be cleaning up their pee and poop horror.  Does your home also have a tell-tale spoor that screams out loud, “furry friends live here!” the moment you enter the door? Or maybe you’ve gotten so used to or nose-blind to the pet odor lifestyle but wonder if your guests ever smell it and decide to break the news to you? Don’t worry, in this article, we are going to bless you with ten tips for pet odors that will ensure that your pet’s litter box can be seen only, not smelled!

1. Vacuum & Dander

For the ones with pets who shed, managing all the fur and hair is a real struggle. We all know that vacuuming the floor is the number one, but the truth is, it’s just the beginning. If you want your home to be an actual hair and fur-free zone, you need to vacuum up and dander all the pet hair from everywhere it may be hiding.  This includes: under the furniture, the cushions of your couch, and in the cracks and crevices around the favorite hangout spots of your pet. Even if your furry friend doesn’t shed much, it’s important to carry out this step because there’s still pet dander to deal with.

2. Wash & Dry

It’s also essential to regularly wash all the daily use items of your pets. This can include pet toys, pet bed covers, pet blankets, cushion covers on furniture (if they’re laundry safe), and, of course, sheets and pillows (if your pet is allowed on your bed).

3. Pet Odor Removal

When tackling pet urine odors in your home, it’s nearly impossible to ace the task on your own every time. To keep surroundings bearable and clean, you must get your home cleaned by some professional pet odor removal services. They perform deep cleaning at your home with high-end professional grade cleaners and equipment, which spot-treat the affected area while eliminating the odor. Even if you have a kitty or pup that’s house trained, accidents happen, so it’s always a good idea to take safety measures and call Apex Odor and Disinfection Services whenever needed.

4. Clean Toys, Bowls, Collars & Leashes

When thinking about the regular cleaning of our pets, we often forget about small things like toys, collars, food bowls, leashes, and even collars. All of these items easily hold on to bacteria and odor, so it’s essential to regularly wash and dry-clean all of this stuff, too.

5. Bathe Them Regularly

Many cats and dogs hate to get a bath, and it’s kind of universal. But to keep them hygienic and healthy, it’s essential to schedule an appointment at the groomer every once in a while. If you bathe your pets at home, set a reminder on your calendar so you won’t forget.

6. Baking Soda

In terms of tackling pet odors around the house, one fine tip for dog odors is using baking soda as an odor neutralizer (as most of us have been using it in our freezers and refrigerators already). Sprinkle some baking soda on the couch cushions or your pet’s bed, let it rest for a few minutes, and then vacuum it up.

7. Vinegar

Vinegar is also an incredible natural cleaning option for more severe pet odors. Try using vinegar (diluted) in a spray bottle and spray on all your carpets and floors. You can also use it in combination with baking soda on your bedding and cushions for an extra powerful, odor-neutralizing punch.

8. Citrus & Hydrogen Peroxide

Citrus and hydrogen peroxide are two very best bases for pet cleaners. The hydrogen peroxide works as a great neutralizer, and citrus acts as a natural enzymatic cleaner.

9. Air Filter

For those pet parents who have allergies, having an air purifier/air filter might be a good idea to tackle any pet odor issues, or even dander. A mechanical air-purifying filter is used to cleanse the air around the house. It forces air through a very fine mesh to trap harmful particles like fur and pet dander.

10. Don’t Forget Closets & Stairways

Finally, when planning out your odor, tackling game plan at home, don’t dare to forget about your fur friend’s most favorite hangout spots: closets and stairways. Some pups, for example, love to take a snooze in the sneakiest corners like inside the closet or under the bed. And some pets love hanging out on the stairs. Make sure you’re properly vacuuming and cleaning these areas as well to stay on top of the deadly, unwanted odors.

I recommend Apex Odor & Disinfection to anyone trying to get rid of any unpleasant odor! I was pleased to notice that they left our house smelling fresh and clean instead of smelling like harmful chemicals. The owner, Dan, was down-to-earth, friendly, and very personable - I was surprised to learn he was the owner of the company. Dan was not just on time, but he was out the same day the service call was placed to remove the musty smell from our basement.

I rent out my apartment with Airbnb and the tenants had smoked cigarettes. I was refered to Apex by a fellow host and couldn't be more pleased! Dan was very helpful and informative and got to work right away. In 24 hours my apartment is smoke free and ready to be rented again.

One of our tenants was smoking cigarettes in his apartment without us knowing. Over three years he turned the apartment into an ashtray. It was so bad we thought we would have to pull the drywall down. We had no idea how to deal with all the ducting that was filled with nicotine! We had to deal with it quickly to get the property occupied, so we called Apex Odor Removal. Dan did a great job explaining the process and when he told us he could complete the job overnight we were thrilled (and somewhat skepitcal...) Sure enough, we came back the next day and it smelled fresher than my own home! I can't say thank you enough! Hopefully we won't have to deal with this situation again, but if we do Apex will be our first call!

I found Apex odor online and spoke with Dan. He was able to make time to assess my property that evening! He came out the next day to treat our house for cigarette odors and had it completed that day! Now a month later... still no smoke odor, just clean and back to original condition. Super friendly service. Thanks again!!

Dan did an awesome job dealing with the pet odor at our new home. We recently bought a home that had 3 dogs and 2 cats living there for over 10 years. The smell was intense! It actually made my son's asthma flare up as soon as we moved in. Dan came out and made the smell go away for good!
